My Journey With God — When Surrender Isn’t Safe… It’s War

THE LIE WE WERE SOLD

You were told:

  • Follow God → life gets easier

  • Go to church → you’re doing it right

  • Pray more → problems disappear

That’s not the Gospel.

That’s comfort religion.

THE TRUTH

When you surrender to God…
you don’t enter comfort—

you enter alignment.

And alignment exposes everything:

  • your flesh

  • your habits

  • your idols

  • your lies

  • your weakness

You didn’t lose peace when you chose God.
You lost the illusion that you had it.

THE RACE PAUL TALKED ABOUT

The apostle Paul the Apostle didn’t describe this life as a vacation.

He called it a race.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race…” 2 Timothy 4:7

Not coasted.
Not attended.
Fought. Ran. Endured.

Because this race isn’t against people…

IT’S AGAINST WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE

Scripture is clear:

“We wrestle not against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12

That includes something most men are afraid to say out loud:

Yes… Satan is real.

Not a cartoon.
Not a metaphor.

A deceiver.
An accuser.
A strategist.

And he doesn’t show up with horns…

He shows up with agreement.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S FROM GOD?

This is where men get stuck.

You feel something…
You think something…
You’re pulled toward something…

But is it God?

Or is it your flesh?

Or worse… something darker?

TEST #1: DOES IT ALIGN WITH TRUTH?

God will never contradict His Word.

If it justifies:

  • sin

  • ego

  • lust

  • pride

  • revenge

…it’s not God.

TEST #2: DOES IT COST YOU?

God’s direction often:

  • humbles you

  • stretches you

  • exposes you

  • requires obedience before understanding

The flesh says: “This feels good.”

God says: “This will make you whole.”

TEST #3: DOES IT PRODUCE FRUIT?

Over time, God produces:

  • discipline

  • clarity

  • conviction

  • peace (not comfort… peace)

Dark influence produces:

  • confusion

  • urgency without wisdom

  • justification

  • hidden shame

God builds men in the light.
Darkness trains them in secret.

THE FLESH VS THE SPIRIT

Here’s the battlefield most men ignore:

You are not just fighting Satan.
You are fighting YOU.

Your flesh wants:

  • comfort

  • validation

  • escape

  • pleasure

And it will quote logic to justify destruction.

“IS CHURCH SAFE?”

Let’s hit this head on…

“Isn’t church the most probable place to encounter Satan?”

That’s a dangerous oversimplification—but there’s a grain of truth worth understanding.

TRUTH:

Church is made of people.

People are:

  • broken

  • prideful

  • performative

  • sometimes hypocritical

So yes…

You can encounter:

  • false teaching

  • ego-driven leadership

  • shallow faith

  • spiritual posturing

Even deception.

BUT HERE’S THE LINE YOU CAN’T CROSS:

Church is not the enemy.

God designed community.

The early church (Acts) was built on:

  • accountability

  • teaching

  • shared struggle

  • truth

The problem isn’t church.

The problem is when men outsource their relationship with God to it.

If your faith only exists in a building…
it will collapse the moment you step outside of it.

HOW DARK INFLUENCE ACTUALLY WORKS

Not dramatic possession…

Subtle erosion.

It whispers:

  • “You deserve this.”

  • “Nobody will know.”

  • “This isn’t that bad.”

  • “You can fix it later.”

  • “You’re too far gone anyway.”

Sound familiar?

That’s not random.

That’s strategy.

It exploits:

  • childhood wounds

  • insecurity

  • rejection

  • loneliness

  • shame

It doesn’t create your weakness…

It weaponizes it.

The enemy doesn’t need to destroy you.
He just needs you to agree with what’s destroying you.

SO WHAT DOES THE JOURNEY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

If you truly surrender to God…

Here’s the real, unfiltered path:

PHASE 1: DISRUPTION

  • Everything feels exposed

  • Old habits feel louder

  • You question everything

PHASE 2: CONFLICT

  • Flesh vs Spirit battle intensifies

  • Temptation doesn’t disappear—it sharpens

  • You feel pulled in two directions

PHASE 3: CLARITY

  • Truth starts cutting through noise

  • You see your patterns clearly

  • Conviction replaces confusion

PHASE 4: REBUILD

  • New disciplines form

  • Identity shifts

  • You begin to walk, not crawl

PHASE 5: ENDURANCE

  • This is where most men quit

  • It’s not exciting anymore

  • It’s daily obedience

PHASE 6: PEACE (NOT COMFORT)

  • You’re grounded

  • You’re clear

  • You’re no longer easily shaken

FINAL TRUTH — THE GOOD RACE

Running the race with God doesn’t mean:

  • no struggle

  • no temptation

  • no confusion

It means:

👉 you stop running from yourself
👉 and start running toward truth

You don’t accidentally finish this race.

You fight for it.
You choose it.
You endure it.

Every day.

  • Where am I confusing comfort with God’s will?

  • What thoughts have I been agreeing with that are not truth?

  • Where is my flesh still leading me instead of God?

You’re not crazy for feeling the tension.

You’re waking up inside a war most men never admit exists.

And that tension?

That pull?

That conflict?

It might be the clearest sign yet…
that you’re finally in the race.
